What is the banking and financial services program?

The Banking and Financial Services program is a well-rounded curriculum designed to teach current and potential professionals the processes and methodology of the rapidly changing global financial services industry, while they explore the many opportunities in the banking and financial services industry.  Combined with the liberal arts core curriculum of San Antonio College, the program provides the student with the fundamental knowledge required of a bank or financial services provider while allowing him/her the opportunity to obtain an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Banking and Financial Services.  An advantage of the program that students can earn a Level 1 certificate and continue on to earn the AAS degree in Banking and Financial Services.  The Certificate is an enhancement to the student’s resume while they are looking for a job in banking and financial services, or if already employed, as a tool for their personnel file toward a promotion or additional career opportunity.

What will I learn?

The Banking and Financial Services program is designed to prepare students for a variety of positions in the banking and financial services sector. Students will learn about bank operations, the Federal Reserve System, money and financial markets, analyzing financial statements, consumer lending, selling bank and financial products, the framework of banking laws and regulations, investments and securities, well as gain a broad knowledge of business and accounting activities. Students will also have the opportunity to gain knowledge through an internship program.

What can I do with this course of study?

The Banking and Financial Services Program provides a pathway for students to be employable with banks and financial institutions. The knowledge and skills acquired in the program will prepare them for careers such as: tellers, new account representatives, customer service representatives, lending assistants, loan servicing operations, financial operations clerks and financial statement analysts.

What is special about the program?

The Banking and Financial Services Program is fully online and may be taken anywhere the student has internet access. Students, and professionals may start with the Eighteen (18) hour certificate and continue on to complete the AAS degree, which add to their employability in additional areas or earn them a promotion in their current area.  The Banking and Financial Services program can be an enhancement to students who already hold a degree in other areas, but want to learn more about the banking and financial services field. The requirement to apply for the program is a high school diploma or GED.
